Human Care Committee

Founded in 2002, the Human Care Committee at Holy Cross Lutheran Church connects our congregation with the wider community and supports our pastor through acts of service and outreach. The committee organizes a variety of projects that provide both spiritual and practical care, such as creating prayer shawls and baby blankets, preparing monthly care packages, and supporting local charities and food ministries.

Human Care also reaches out through fundraisers, seasonal events, and collections that bless families, students, and neighbors in need. Whether it’s mailing encouragement to college students, hosting special gatherings for group homes, or providing meals and resources to the hungry, this ministry reflects Christ’s compassion in action.

We welcome anyone who would like to join us—whether part-time or full-time—in sharing God’s love through hands-on service. Every contribution helps extend care, comfort, and encouragement to others in His name.

This year, the committee has organized a variety of projects, including:

• Spiritual Support: Inspirational booklets, prayer shawls for the sick, and baby blankets for baptisms.
• Monthly Care Packages: 90 treats delivered each month (65 to Peace Meals, 25 to church members).
• Fundraisers: Spring Flower Sale ($200), Mum Sale ($175.25), Poinsettia Sale ($69.25), and the August Rummage Sale ($1,131.83).
• Community Outreach: Diaper/wipe collection for the Family Life Center, participation in the Run/Walk for Life and Family Life Banquet, and $500 donated from rummage sale profits.
• Youth & College Support: Goodie boxes mailed to college students twice a year.
• Food Ministry: Helping at the Shelbyville Food Bank twice a month and collecting donations at church.

Past Service:

• Cookie & candy baking (80 dozen) for Peace Meals and church members (Dec).
• All-Church Caroling Party (Dec) with cookie delivery and fellowship.
• Christmas donation tree for Blessings in a Backpack.
• JOY Tree display at the Festival of Trees with ornaments made by Sunday School students.
• Prison mission support with previously raised funds.
